Meet @NatandMarie, co-hosts of TwestivalTO’s Twidol Karaoke Challenge

March 17th, 2011 Comment

Nat and Marie are leaving the comfort of their USTREAM show studio to co-host TwestivalTO’s Twidol Karaoke Challenge live stream!!

Think you have what it takes to become TwestivalTO Twidol? Then buy your tickets here and join @NatandMarie on March 24 at the Fifth to compete for the hearts and tweets of fans and followers on-site and around the world! Most votes will win great prizes and all the Twidol glory!

Performances will be featured on Twestival Global’s live stream, connecting nearly 200 cities throughout the world on March 24 raising money for local charities. More info on that come soon!

It’s going to be an amazing show with the sassy, fun loving Nat and Marie providing laughs, entertainment and an all around great time! Hope you can join us!

TwestivalTO faithful, meet Nat and Marie!

One girl is Nat (The Geek) and the other is Marie (The Nerd). One is taller than the other and one owns more bustiers than the other. They are two brunettes treading in a blond girl’s world. They know no fear, only kick-ass viral content, apps, websites, music, trending topics and anything related the world of online popculture. They are probably the prettiest dorks to air a weekly live-streaming talk show and they did it just to talk about cool stuff they find online every Wednesday night at 9 p.m. on natandmarie.com. They like to think it's engaging entertainment, but that's really for you to decide! When you tune in, don't forget to say "hi!"

Marie "Mings" Nicola

She used to be one of the only Maritimers who proudly claimed she never set foot on a fishing boat, until she went fishing. Now she's the one of the only Maritimers who proudly stepped on a fishing boat and never successfully caught any fish. Failing a career as a fisherwoman, Marie had only one choice: Live Streaming Entertainment. After a grueling tour of duty in traditional media, digital marketing/content production and couch-surfing 101 she finally earned enough stripes to co-produce her own online show. One major series later and a really embarrassing ad for Rogers (she made out with a ficus) Marie and Nat united and started planning their greatest opus to date: Nat & Marie... Canada's first weekly online live streaming talkshow. And, she loves co-producing with her super geeky Partner-in-crime, Nat, every week!

Anastasia "Nat" Tubanos

On set everyone jokingly calls her the Gorean. But, Nat is so much more than her Greek and Korean descent. Before Nat & Marie, Nat was an active journalist doing everything from writing for the Globe and Mail to blogging for CBC.ca. With three web series making the jump to network, life was pretty good! Then Nat met Marie via Twitter and for over 18 months the two have been building their dream of establishing an innovative, engaging entertainment in an online platform. So far so good because Nat & Marie is airing, people are watching and Nat is co-producing one of the most engaging shows in Canadian recent history with her nerdy partner-in-crime, Marie.

The Remix Project - Through the Eye of Art

March 14th, 2011 Comment

In the TwestivalTO spirit of collaborative sharing and support, Remix asked their 'Art of Photography' participants to create images - complete with brief blurbs - to explain just what their opportunity with The Remix Project means to them!

Here are some of their amazing contributions:

Photographer: Tiyrah Campbell Spence (Remix 7.0 Art of Photography).

I am so incredibly thankful to be a part of such an amazing program at The Remix Project. To me, Remix is not only a place that I can develop my talents, but it is a family. I am surrounded by so many amazingly talented people, and I am humbled to be working with each and everyone of them. Everyday that I'm there, I am motivated by the hard work and positive energy of everyone else, to better myself not only as an artist but as a person.

The Remix Project is important to me for so many different reasons. On the surface it is an environment for me to practice my art and further develop as an artist. However, it is so much more than that. The Remix Project gives me the chance to meet and connect with people that share the same creative drive and passion that I do.  I have never before been in a place where I truly felt that I my artistic vision was understood, accepted, encouraged and supported. The Remix Project is that place for me. In no time at all Cycle 7.0 became a family and we continue to grow closer. The Remix Project is a place where I feel at home.

- Mirian Njoh

Photographer: Amber Williams-King (Remix 7.0 Art of Photography).

"From a re-vival of childhood passions to a re-imagining of future dreams, Remix is not only an outlet - it's a blank canvas. It is a space where creative ideas run rampant and are not tamed but channeled into never ending possibilities. For someone who often observes from the periphery of social scenes, for an artist unsure of her talents, collaborating at Remix starts by simply opening a door. There is always a voice, a smile, an image reminding me of the beauty in difference: different perspectives, different cultures, different abilities..."

"An understanding of all these elements; a respect for all those involved; freedom from judgement and the limitations of colour-by-number type guidelines; the opportunity to share, learn and just grow is what makes my Remix soul-amazing."
- Amber Williams-King

Photographer: Buruk Early (Remix 7.0 Art of Photography).

"It means taking myself seriously as an artist, in my ability to think creatively and having the skills to produce it. With Remix I am plugged into a network of artists and mentors to support my growth and development as a professional photographer. Remix means chasing your dreams fiercely and relentlessly."
-Aden Abebe

Photographer: Mugugu Beauduin (Remix 7.0 Art of Photography).

"My opportunity with The Remix Project provides me with the means to pursue photography as both profession and artistic craft. As an amateur photographer looking to develop the best of my abilities; the mentors to whom I've been introduced, who currently work in the industry, have managed to create a positive and healthy learning environment for the participants. We all feel very comfortable socializing. This photograph, that I've titled 'Healthy & Positive,' gives a glimpse into how the space created for participants is a positive and healthy environment within which to share, explore, network and create."
-Mugugu Beauduin

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

And there's so much more where that came from! In addition to the incredible work of its photography participants, TwestivalTO will showcase some of the impressive cast of Remix's musical artists who will put on a number of performances throughout the night! The countdown is on...

Cheers,
Stephen

Hola,

After some amazing - and hilarious - suggestions, we were finally able to choose the winner of the TwestivalTO official drink name challenge! Congrats to Steven Kovacs (@01BOND) with #SweetRetweet! He is the lucky winner of two tickets to TwestivalTO! Thanks to everyone for their contributions.

We are blown away by the amount of creative talent in this city, and we want to bring the best to the forefront. We have teamed up with some great sponsors to make sure you go home with some really cool swag (so make sure you get there early!).

Over the next few days, we will be launching a few different contests to keep you involved and give you the chance to make your mark on this year's fantastic event.

For the second year in a row, RIGHTSLEEVE has teamed up with TwestivalTO to get some of your creative ideas visible on the Toronto stage!

We will producing 100 Limited Edition T-shirts for this year’s event on March 24 at The Fifth. If you are one of the first 100 people through the door, you will be the proud owner of one of these wicked awesome shirts.

To make these shirts really special, we need your help!

What does #TwestivalTO mean to you? Tweet @RIGHTSLEEVE and you could get your handle and tweet printed on the back of these shirts! You can put your stamp on history! :)

Interested? They need your tweet by March 18 at 10 a.m., so they have enough time to design and print the shirts. Let's see what Toronto has to offer!

The good people at RIGHTSLEEVE also made a really neat video to show us how committed they are!
