Thank You

Thank you Toronto for your amazing support in helping raise over $10,000.00 for charity: water!

Your generosity will allow two new wells to be built and provide clean, safe drinking water to people desperately in need. You have re-defined what it means to be a community and made an incredible impact on the lives of others. Twestival saw strangers coming together to heighten awareness about a greatly overlooked cause, an online community harnessing technology to promote foreign aid and a local community collaborating globally - all of us coming together for the greater good. It has been humbling to be a part of such an incredible team of people making an extraordinary impact.

The Twestival community succeeded in heightening awareness about water crisis’s around the world and made people think about their own relationship with water here at home. With over 450 attendees at TwestivalTO, it was also yet another demonstration of how amazing our online community is here in the city. It was also one heck of a party!!!

The three weeks leading up to TwestivalTO saw an amazing group of people lending their support, time and resources to help organize the event. These selfless people have worked tirelessly behind the scenes, whilst balancing careers, families and other commitments, helping source corporate donors, soliciting ideas from the community, getting the word out about the event, coordinating details and facilitating everything you experienced on the night of. These anonymous heroes deserve sincerest kudos from all of us.

A huge, community thank you to:

We were also fortunate to have the support of so many incredible companies - Kohler ( @savewatercanada), GCI Group, Molson (@toniahammer@molsonferg), Microsoft, Organic, KSI, BananaMobile ( @bananamobile), ScribbleLive ( @scribblelive), Gelaskins, Daily Challenge ( @DoOneGood) and RedWire ( @RedWire). These companies made donations on the communities behalf to charity: water as well as donated to the event itself - whether it be through facilitating live tweeting, contests or picture sharing, providing giveaways, graphic design or printing or perhaps the hit of the night -  free beer.

It is my hope that through Twestival, people will not only continue to support charity: water and their work in developing nations, but also address their own conservation efforts. The greatest impact we have the opportunity to make lies in us applying our new found respect for water in our everyday lives. Whether you take shorter showers, turn the water off while brushing your teeth or use cooking water to feed your plants - I hope every one of us will continue to make an impact.

More information on monies raised worldwide for charity: water will be released tomorrow by @amanda (Global Twestival Organizer) and @scottharrison (Founder of charity: water) - I hope you will all be proud of the amazing part you played in this global movement and in the impact Toronto made on the international community.

Thank you.
